Nov 8-14: Grief as a Change Agent of Transformation Retreat

Gullu Singh, JD

Residential Retreat Teacher

Gulwinder “Gullu” Singh is a corporate real estate attorney and dedicated Dharma practitioner. He teaches both secular and Buddhist classes, groups and retreats. He has taught mindfulness at universities, in law firms, bar associations and corporate settings. He is a graduate the 4-year Spirit Rock Teacher Training Program and qualified to teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. He is core faculty of the Spirit Rock Dedicated Practitioner Program, core faculty of the Mindfulness in Law Teacher Training and a mentor in the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program. Gullu is deeply inspired to share meditation in the legal and corporate community as an antidote to stress, a way to cope more effectively with the challenges of work and life and to inject more sanity, compassion and wisdom into this world.

Dread is the price we pay for caring deeply. So when dread shows up, that anxious uncertainty can be a reminder that love's still here.

Retreat On-Land

September 15 - September 19, 2025 Monday - Friday | 4 nights

Clearing the Path: Opening the Heart and Mind

Full - with waitlist. Commuter spaces available! The Buddha spoke of five mental and emotional states that cloud the heart: desire, aversion, restlessness, sloth and torpor, and doubt—known as the nīvaraṇāni or hindrances. These energies often intensify on retreat, yet they offer a rare chance to see the mind’s subtle strategies for disconnection. This retreat invites us to investigate how the hindrances show up in meditation and daily life, learning to recognize, name, and gently release them, revealing the heart’s natural radiance and the possibility of awakening.

Reclamation of the Sacred: Journey into Refuge, Presence, and Love

Spaces Still Available! In helping us to deepen our refuge and reconnect with what is most precious and sacred in this life, this retreat draws from teachings and practices that open us to the heart of compassion. Informed by a synthesis of Theravāda Buddhism as transmitted through the Thai Forest Tradition and the teachings of Ajahn Chah, and Mahāyāna practices and teachings around Quan Yin’s compassionate Bodhisattva Path, this retreat includes devotional practices, Dharma talks, meditation instructions, Yoga sessions, and meetings with teachers.

Equanimity: Finding Balance in Uncertain Times

Spaces Still Available! Equanimity (upekkhā) is a highly-valued quality in Buddhist teachings. But what is it, and how do we cultivate it in our meditation practice? How can we access equanimity in daily life, especially in the midst of uncertainty, fear, and sadness over the suffering in the world? This retreat will offer instructions, talks, sitting and walking meditations, and practice discussions to support the development of equanimity in our formal practice. We can then apply equanimity to our life off the cushion.

Mettā Retreat: Teachings and Practices to Cultivate a Wise, Compassionate, and Resilient Heart

10 CE Credits. Registration Open. This retreat will focus on the cultivation of mettā, or lovingkindness. Retreats allow us the space to dedicate focused time to meditation. Mettā practice is a path to wisdom and awakening. Through this steady continuity of practice, we will cultivate benevolence, friendliness, and goodwill as the guiding orientation of the heart and mind, allowing these qualities to naturally extend into daily life. We will also explore the companion qualities of mettā—compassion, joy, and equanimity. Together, these four practices, known as the brahmavihāras or Divine Abodes, foster self-confidence, self-acceptance, and inner steadiness.

Training On-Land Dharma Institute

May 2026 - May 2028 Five residential retreats

Dedicated Practitioner Program

This two-year program is for Insight meditation practitioners who want to deepen their practice and understanding of the Buddhadharma—through immersive, residential retreats, study, and shared practice. As a community, we’ll look closely at the roots of suffering and the Buddha’s path towards freedom, gaining a deep understanding of what it means to be liberated. We will focus on cultivating wisdom, compassion, and ethical mindful action into everyday life, staying close to the Buddha’s original teachings in the Pali Canon and how the teachings can support us in contemporary life. DPP is an opportunity to engage in a systematic investigation of many of the foundational lists from the teachings of the Buddha.

Mindfulness for Everyone: Cultivating Attention, Compassion, and Presence

8 CE Credits. Registration Open. Mindfulness offers us tools to develop our capacity to pay attention, regulate emotions, and cultivate states of lovingkindness, compassion, and even-mindedness. In this retreat we will practice mindfulness through stillness and movement meditation, as well as through lectures and the opportunity to meet with teachers who will guide our practice. While rooted in the Buddhist practice of mindfulness, this retreat will also focus on the practical applications of mindfulness and the range of ways to practice it.
