Mindfulness for Everyone

Mindfulness offers us tools to develop our capacity to pay attention, regulate emotions, and cultivate states of lovingkindness, compassion, and even-mindedness. Mindfulness can be practiced in a variety of ways—from focused attention to wide open, spacious, natural awareness. Over time, one can access states of profound well-being in both silent meditation and everyday life.

In this retreat we will practice mindfulness through sitting and walking meditation, as well as through lectures and the opportunity to meet with teachers who will guide our practice.

While rooted in the Buddhist practice of mindfulness, this retreat will focus on practical applications of mindfulness and the variety of ways to practice it. It is open to people of all experience levels and backgrounds, especially those interested in secular mindfulness. The retreat is held in silence except for teacher-led Q&A, small group discussions, or other practice meetings.

This program offers 8 CE Credits Continuing Education (CE) credits for $80 for , and may be applicable for other licenses. Please review our CEC information page for full provider information.

To be eligible for Continuing Education Credits (CECs), you must:

  • Register and pay for CECs by 4:30 p.m. PT, the business day before the program. After the program begins, no retroactive CECs will be given and the CEC fee is non-refundable.
  • Attend in full and fulfill all attendance requirements and next steps. No exceptions. Please review the CEC information page for attendance requirements.

Alex Haley has practiced meditation for more than 25 years, including many multi-month retreats. He teaches at Minneapolis Insight Meditation Community and online through Dharma Ground. He graduated from the SRMC/IMS/IRC training program and is the former mindfulness faculty lead at the Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality & Healing.

How to be a Bodhisattva: Zen Insights on the Way of Compassion 

In this daylong retreat, we’ll explore teachings about the Bodhisattva path—the way of friendliness and compassion—and we’ll study a short text of Dogen, the 13th Century founder of Soto Zen, called “The Bodhisattva’s Four Methods of Guidance.” This poetic text offers four practices designed to awaken the bodhisattva spirit: generosity, kind speech, beneficial action, and identity action. Together, we’ll spend time experiencing Dogen’s words through meditation and writing.
