What we're asking in the practice is to let go of that repetition of thought, the old stories we get caught up in and which lead us into the past or future. Because if we stay caught up in that continuum, it's unlikely that we’ll be able to find that which is still. That's why these teachings are so critical. Because when all the conditions arise—those inner and outer conditions of life that move and shift and come and go—we know where to rest back to. We know where to find our inner refuge that is available in every moment of our existence.
