Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities (updated April 18, 2014)

Please contact Marya Mayer, Volunteer & Community Coordinator, at (415) 488-0164 x 224 or volunteering@spiritrock.org if interested in any of the opportunities below.

Classes, Daylongs, and Events:

Volunteers support every class, daylong and event offered by Spirit Rock.  In exchange for 2-4 hours of service in support of the program, Work Exchange Volunteers have the opportunity to attend the event or class free of charge or pay a reduced fee (for Benefits and Special Events).  You can explore programs on our website or print newsletter and contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Marya Mayer, to volunteer for any non-residential program.  Please read Spirit Rock's work exchange policy.

For most programs, day-of event volunteers arrive an hour early to help with program room set up, tidying the hall, registration, collecting money, directing parking for larger programs, and other event needs.  Volunteers offer assistance during part of lunch or at breaks and then help with breakdown for about an hour following the program. To read more about event volunteering click here.

We are most in need of volunteers for the programs listed below.  This is not a comprehensive list.

Ongoing Event Volunteer Needs:

Dharma & Recovery group meets 2nd Friday of the month from 7:30-9:30 pm  volunteers are needed 40 minutes before and after to assist our event coordinator.

Our Monday night talk is a Spirit Rock tradition.  This is a wonderful way to meet people in our community.  Teachers such as Jack Kornfield, Mark Coleman, and many others offer a dharma talk every Monday from 7:15-9:15 pm.  To volunteer to support the event by offering to help set up, greet people as they arrive, direct parking, and help with clean up, contact Sean Fargo at seanf@spiritrock.org.

New class beginning May 8, 2014, 2:00 -4:30pm and continuing on the 2nd Thursday of every month. This drop in group will be taught by Anna Douglas, other Spirit Rock teachers, as well as special guests.  Join your peers in re-inventing what it means to be old! How can the teachings and practices of Dharma illuminate and enliven our potential for living our elder years with wisdom and compassion? We will use the tools of meditation and contemplative inquiry to explore our actual experience of aging - which may be different from the culture's prevailing notions.  We will occasionally invite teachers of writing, singing, or movement to encourage creative insights. For all levels of practice experience, and any age over 55.

Want to help us spread the word about Spirit Rock's programs and volunteer opportunities?  Know places in your community that would welcome our marketing materials-- such as yoga studios, co-ops, eco-friendly stores, community centers. etc.?  We are especially looking for help with outreach in San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, Sausalito, Tiburon, Mill Valley, Novato, and Santa Rosa.
