In this Dharma talk, James Baraz discusses the last of the four brahmavihāras, equanimity (upekkhā), which holds the other three—lovingkindness (mettā), compassion (karuṇā), and sympathetic joy (muditā)—with spaciousness and balance. Equanimity reminds us to let life unfold as it will. It is possible for us to let go of control, which we never had in the first place, and to meet life's ups and downs with balance and the possibility of a wise, skillful response. “Equanimity,” James explains, “is a spacious stillness that just allows for it all, resisting nothing.”
