Refuge & Response: Loving Engagement in a Time of Transformation

In September 2025, the EcoDharma & Transformational Culture Program (ETCP) gathered in community for Refuge & Response: Loving Engagement in a Time of Transformation. Over the span of five days, attendees engaged with teachings, dialogue, and collective practice focused on meeting this era of ecological and social change with courage, clarity, and compassion.

Drawing on Buddhist and Earth-based teachings, the retreat followed the arc of Joanna Macy’s Spiral, moving through Gratitude, Honoring Our Pain for the World, Seeing with New Eyes, and Going Forth. Each day offered morning contemplative practices and afternoon symposiums that helped participants cultivate the inner resources and outer connections needed to meet this moment with resilience and skillful action.

We are grateful to our partners for their contributions and support of this gathering: Braided Wisdom, One Earth Sangha, Aloka Earth Room, and Awake in the Wild, along with our Core Planning Team—Ayya Santacitta, Bonnie Duran, Carol Cano, James Baraz, Kirsten Rudestam, Kristin Barker, Mark Coleman, and Yong Oh.

May these offerings nourish your practice and inspire grounded, wholehearted engagement.
