Join us for a conversation in three parts between Venerable Dhammanandā Bhikkhunī and Ayya Santacittā Bhikkhunī, who met for the first time in Thailand in the mid 1990s. Since then they have both been ordained as bhikkhunīs —Venerable Dhammananda in Sri Lanka in 2003 and Ayya Santacitta at Spirit Rock in 2011. Ven. Dhammanandā is the senior Bhikkhunī in Thailand, and joins us online from her monastery outside of Bangkok. In the first class, they'll discuss the influences and experiences that shaped their paths. The second part, “Dharma in Action,” explores the impactful work they’ve undertaken and the application of Buddhist teachings in daily life. The series concludes with “Taking it Further” in which they will discuss the trajectory of their spiritual paths as they both weave action around global issues with their individual Dharma practice.

How to Defeat Distraction

In this round of our sutta study series, “The Refuge of Dhamma: Exploring the Discourses of the Buddha,” we will explore discourses (suttas) that teach practical tools for working with distraction and the root causes of mental suffering. We will read suttas addressing distracting thought (MN 20), fear (MN 4), and mindfulness of the body (MN 119), and we will discuss how to bring the training of the mind more fully into our meditation and daily lives.
