How do I find out about volunteer opportunities?
This page Volunteer Opportunities updated weekly, lists our most immediate volunteer needs, including event volunteer openings for the next few weeks.
How do I sign up to volunteer?
To sign up, or if you have questions, please contact Marya Mayer, Volunteer & Community Coordinator, by emailing email@example.com or calling (415) 488-0164 x 224. Marya is in the office Monday to Friday generally 9:30 am - 5:30 pm.
What if I am going to be late for my scheduled service?
Spirit Rock depends on the service of volunteers in order for our programs to run smoothly. In order to support a space able to hold the deep learning and practice available here, it is important that volunteers arrive at the time designated for the start of their service.
If you have signed up for a volunteer committment during the week and you cannot be here, contact Marya at the email or number above. If you have signed up to volunteer for a weekend event and have an emergency arise after hours, please leave a message for our event coordinators at 415-488-0164 xtn. 238 so they know not to expect you.
Can I put in only partial service?
It is of greatest support to Spirit Rock when volunteers work the hours they have committed to work. If you are able to complete only a portion of your service, we ask that you arrange abbreviated hours with the Volunteer & Community Coordinator or the staff member with whom you will be working at least 24 hours ahead of time.
Please be aware that it may not always be possible to work abbreviated hours at an event, as we typically need volunteers before, during and after our events.
Does Spirit Rock offer a residential volunteer program?
No. Spirit Rock does not offer a residential volunteer program. We do not have overnight accommodations for volunteers.
If you are interested in attending a residential retreat and participating in our work retreatant program, please see our Work Retreat Information page for details.
Tips for people new to Spirit Rock:
Do not wear scented products, this includes "natural" scents.
People on retreat are usually practicing silence. When there is a retreat in session, please do not walk past the wooden gate. If you are helping housekeeping or the kitchen and must go past the gate for your volunteer service, please help maintain the retreat space by not speaking to people past the gate until you arrive at the office where you will check in for your volunteer shift. Please keep your eyes down and do not make eye contact with people on retreat.
