Stephanie "Mei" Elliott first encountered mindfulness teachings 18 years ago and has been practicing meditation and yoga since 2004. Starting in 2012, she began teaching mindfulness to at-risk youth, as well as foster parents and therapists that were involved in the foster care system. In addition to sitting long retreats at Spirit Rock, Mei lived as a Zen monk at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center for 2.5 years. She received lay ordination in 2015 and continues to live residentially studying the Buddha's teachings at San Francisco Zen Center. Mei is a mentor for the Spirit Rock Family Program as well as Inward Bound Mindfulness Education, and currently facilitates Young Urban Zen, a sangha for people in their 20s and 30s.
