The Blessing of Gratitude

In this month’s teaching selections, five Spirit Rock teachers explore the heart quality of gratitude. Pawan Bareja, at one of the last Monday Night gatherings in 2020 before we went online, connects gratitude to the relational qualities of compassion and empathy. Oren Jay Sofer and Fresh “Lev” White offer guided meditations that open to different aspects of gratitude practice, from joy to deepened presence. Phillip Moffitt, writing with his beloved precision and heartfulness, connects the practice of gratitude to the profound Buddhist insight into interdependence with all things. And Ashley Sharp reflects on the connections between gratitude and generosity. Enjoy!

There are many such practices, but occasionally I suggest one that almost always surprises them and sometimes draws skepticism-the mindful cultivation of gratitude. Gratitude is the sweetest of all the practices for living the dharma in daily life and the most easily cultivated, requiring the least sacrifice for what is gained in return. ”
