For over 20 years, Spirit Rock has trained many of today’s Insight Meditation dharma teachers who are now actively creating and bolstering spiritual community throughout the US. Our flagship Teacher Training is evolving, celebrating the strengths, perspectives, and skills of a diverse cohort of future leaders and building-upon the legacy and success of past trainings to dynamically transform the program.
Since Spirit Rock teachers-in-training seed thriving communities across the country, and at times, even around the world, it is important for these sanghas to reflect the richness of human diversity, especially in the changing times of our current world. By broadening access to teachings of wisdom and compassion, we are together creating opportunities to transform lives and challenge harmful systems. The ripple effect of this training is impossible to quantify.
The current Teacher Training is led by Gina Sharpe, Kate Lila Wheeler and Larry Yang—three teachers on the Spirit Rock Teachers Council empowered by the entire Spirit Rock community. These faculty members are also pioneers in awakening Insight Meditation communities to issues of race and equity and the possibilities of inclusive sanghas.
