Walt Opie

Walt Opie was first introduced to insight meditation in 1993 at Spirit Rock. His dharma practice really took off when he began attending regular residential retreats in 2005. A few of his most influential teachers have been: Sayadaw U Tejaniya, Ajahn Sumedho, Jack Kornfield, Joseph Goldstein, Sharon Salzberg, James Baraz, Gil Fronsdal, Noah Levine, and Kevin Griffin. He is a graduate of both the Spirit Rock Community Dharma Leaders' (CDL4) program and the Sati Center Buddhist Chaplaincy program. He leads a monthly sitting group for people in recovery in Berkeley and serves as a volunteer Buddhist teacher at Solano state prison. In addition, he is the Executive Director of Buddhist Pathways Prison Project (BP3) in California. Walt is a trainee in the current IMS Teacher Training program.
