"Mindfulness, the aware, balanced acceptance of present experience, is at the heart of what the Buddha taught.”

Cara FitzGibbon

Cara Lai FitzGibbon grew up in the Boston area as a daughter and sister in an incredibly unique and dynamic family. She attended Rhode Island School of Design, and in her post-college years spent time working as a freelance artist and an outdoor educator. Her life has consisted of a steadily increasing awareness of suffering, first in others and then in herself. Her desire to know, to understand, and to spread joy has been her companion in becoming intimate with suffering, joy, and existence itself. This brought her to practice meditation in 2008, and shortly thereafter she began attending retreats at IMS. Since then, Cara has become increasingly oriented towards her life's purpose, one of deep spiritual growth and love. She went to graduate school for social work and now works as a mindfulness-based therapist and visual artist living in Burlington, Vermont. She teaches and manages teen and adult retreats with Inward Bound Mindfulness Education and teaches with Against the Stream. She is a lover of the natural world and has learned to reconnect with herself joyfully through the wind, the trees, the sun and her dear partner James.
