Spirit Rock’s campus is set on more than 400 acres in beautiful Marin County, just 19 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Spirit Rock offers a range of meditation classes, programs, and residential meditation retreats. Spirit Rock has a 96 bed residential retreat center and a staff of approximately 50. Communications Specialist (Part-Time)
Part-time, non-exempt, 24.0 hours per week position. The schedule is flexible and may ocassionally include weekend hours.

JOB SUMMARY
The Communications Specialist (CS) is responsible for Spirit Rock graphic design, collateral production, website maintenance, online outreach efforts and audio-visual needs.  The CS assists in the creation and execution of integrated communications plans and strategies and ensures consistent cohesive brand as well as accuracy in all Spirit Rock communications.  The CS provides creative services by designing, creating and updating event fliers, brochures, postcards, invitations and other advertising collateral.  The CS creates print and electronic newsletters, edits videos, and edits webcasts for live streaming events.  The CS will also participate in community outreach through online calendars, emails to targeted/segmented constituents, and social media.  This is a part-time (24 hours per week) position with benefits.

QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of 5 years experience in graphic design, communications, marketing, and/or audio/video work.  Adobe Creative Suite expertise; Photoshop, Illustrator and In Design experience required.  HTML and CSS proficient; knowledge of Raiser’s Edge (or equivalent) and understanding of database driven website maintenance and an ability to work with associated administrative tools; excellent copy editing and proof-reading skills; working knowledge of Google Analytics and ability to prepare reports of user activity; social media experience required.  Ability to remain calm under pressure of deadlines.  Ability to communicate about Buddhism and meditation strongly preferred.

RETREAT HOUSEKEEPING ADMINISTRATOR Part-Time

Part-time, non-exempt, 10.0 hours per week position. The schedule is flexible, to include two 5-hour days each week.

JOB SUMMARY

Support Spirit Rock Retreat Operations by providing exceptional administrative support to the campus retreat facilities housekeeping team.

  • Review of Housekeeping in-box, primary handling of communications/inquiries with Housekeeping (HK) and non-HK staff; updates/reminders to HK Staff.
  • Work with Resident Retreat Housekeeper in determining volunteer and extra hire needs for openings, closings and in-between retreats, and requests volunteers for identified days and/or timeframes.
  • Work with Volunteer Coordinator to build/maintain and oversee volunteer pool; interfaces with Housekeepers re: volunteer scheduling needs.  
  • Provides volunteer and work retreatant feedback to Volunteer Coordinator and Registrars.
  • Develop and maintain calendaring and spreadsheet of recurring housekeeping tasks -- weekly/monthly/quarterly/annually and set up reminders; update as needed.
  • Inventory, research for affordability and environmentally appropriate products; ordering and tracking of all supplies, such as cleaning, paper products, vacuums and vacuum bags, kitchen/bed/bath items such a linens, shower curtains etc.; coding receipts for payment. 
  • Lost and Found (and “Free Box”) items tracking and communications with retreatants and other Housekeepers; follow-up with SR staff as needed.
  • Collection and processing of linen money.
  • Other tasks as directed by manager.
  • Check central office communications areas (e.g. whiteboard, notes, VM, HK digital and wall calendars); follow-up with Manager and/or other Housekeepers regarding questions or feedback.
  • Attend and participate in regular Housekeeping department meetings when available and/or scheduled to work. May attend bi-monthly All Staff Meetings (when scheduled to work), quarterly Staff Sangha and annual Staff Retreat gatherings each year.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 2 years office administrative support experience.
  • Ability to deal effectively and appropriately with others in completing the assigned work.
  • Ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Open and pleasant attitude, flexibility, dependability, honesty and integrity.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Detail oriented with ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Well-organized with the ability to follow through on multiple projects.
  • Adaptable and able to respond quickly to changing or unexpected work situations.
  • Experience with Spirit Rock’s programs, mission and practices preferred.
  • Physical requirements include: The ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.

RETREAT HOUSEKEEPER Part-Time

Part-time, non-exempt, 20.0 hours per week position, with an irregular schedule (retreat opening and closing days, and an additional 1-2 days/week).  Pro-rated benefits eligibility/package.

JOB SUMMARY

Provide exceptional housekeeping service to the campus retreat facility.

  • Cleaning of facilities, stocking supplies, selective laundry, working retreats in progress, preparing for and supporting retreat openings and closings, training and overseeing incoming retreatants, work retreatants, volunteers and extra hires in Housekeeping tasks.
  • Attend and participate in regular Housekeeping department meetings when scheduled to work. Attend bi-monthly All Staff Meetings (when scheduled to work), quarterly Staff Sangha and annual Staff Retreat gatherings each year.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in Housekeeping preferred.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays and be available for an irregular schedule.
  • Open and pleasant attitude, flexibility, dependability, honesty and integrity.
  • Adaptable and able to respond quickly to changing or unexpected work situations.
  • Ability to deal effectively and appropriately with others in completing the assigned work, including situations involving pressure.
  • Ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively as a member of the Housekeeping team.

  • Ability to drive a car with a valid driver’s license.
  • Physical requirements include: The ability to work outdoors including frequent exposure to seasonal weather conditions. To sit, walk and stand for extended periods including walking up and down steep hills and stairways. The ability to lift, carry, push or pull objects up to 40 pounds. The ability to perform moderately difficult manipulative tasks. Willingness to drive/learn to drive a golf cart. The ability to tolerate regular exposure to mild cleaning agents.

RETREAT HOUSEKEEPER Extra-Hire

JOB SUMMARY
Assist Retreat Housekeepers with openings and closings of residential retreats, particularly resident hall and retreat center cleaning, laundering of towels, and distribution of cleaning and other supplies. Assist Retreat Housekeeping staff during retreats on daily rounds, including linen distribution, some cleaning and other tasks as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS
Able to follow written and verbal directions. Some experience in cleaning. Good attention to detail. The ability to lift up to 30 pounds, good energy and physical stamina. Retreat practice preferred in order to sensitively honor our silent residential retreat environment. Dependable and flexible, efficient, team player, willingness to do cleaning work.
