NOTE: There are no more scholarship funds or young adult rates left for this retreat.
The Thanksgiving retreat at Spirit Rock is a special opportunity to spend the holiday in the company of a like-minded community, surrounded by the peace and silence of the land. We will spend our days in noble silence with the sitting and walking practices of Insight Meditation (vipassana). Supported in this beautiful container, we will explore how the teachings of the Buddha point us to directly touch and understand our experience, opening us to compassion and wisdom.
There will be meditation instructions for sitting and walking meditation, periods of movement (qigong), dharma talks and interviews with the teachers. This retreat will also include devotional practices and chanting.
Sebene Selassie will be assisting at this retreat. Sebene is the Executive Director of New York Insight Meditation Center (NYI) and has worked in the not-for-profit sector for over 20 years. She has a BA in Comparative Religious Studies from McGill University and an MA in Media Studies from the New School. She is a graduate of Spirit Rock's Community Dharma Leaders Program and leads the Generation Meditation (Young Adults) Sangha at NYI.
Spirit Rock extends a special invitation to young adults (age 18-26) who wish to attend this retreat at a rate of $25 per night, on a first come, first serve basis.
Supported by the ongoing generosity of our sangha, we have begun construction on our lower campus for a permanent Community Hall and support buildings. Our upper campus, where your residential retreat occurs, is not part of the construction. Please refer to the Construction Map for the location of construction relative to the Retreat Hall.
While some ambient machinery sound may travel, it will not be continuous or nearby. Construction will take place during business work hours (Monday – Friday, 7:00am - 4:00pm) and on some Saturdays. We look forward to supporting your practice here at Spirit Rock.
